Another fun tool to use for raking down forms, Twisted Loops. All five tools are available indivdually or as a five piece set. Please be aware of the options prior to purchasing so I know if you're buying one tool or the set.
These tools were born out of my need for a good sturdy blending loop tool. The loops are made out of very thin piano wire. This batch will be set into english oak handles, turned by me.
Small - The smallest rake tool in this collection, I use 0.5mm piano wire, tightly twisted. The diameter of the loops is approximately 9mm or 3/8" wide.
Medium - These loop tools include variations in wire diameter. The smaller wire is 0.6mm and the larger diameter wire is 0.8mm. The loops are approximately 15mm or 5/8" wide.
Large - the newest and largest twisted wire tool uses 1mm wire for a coarser raking. The loops are approximately 25mm or 1" in width.
Tools Small and medium - The overall length is around 7” or 17.8cm. The larger loops are coarser so you'd move from the large loop to the smaller loop for refining forms.
I used some small brass upright supports for each loop to allow the loops themselves to remain a little bit bigger than the wire dictates but means that there is very little flex in them at all. So for their relative size they're very strong and will endure continuous raking of forms. Suitable for sculpey, oil based clays, other polymers and wax, this tool and the pitch and depth of the twists in the wire allow for a good amount of material to be refined. I use this when defining shapes on some of the small toy figures I sculpt which stand anywhere from 40mm (1.5") to, well it doesn't matter - this loop is applicable at any scale for any detail.
As with all of my tools, they are made to order and the process can be time consuming because I won't compromise on quality or accuracy to my original drawings and measurements. I'm also a one man band so please allow for up to 10 days after the purchase date for your order to be dispatched.
